Dem Himmel so nah – dem Glück so fern

Kira Waldstaetten, a very attractive 28 year-old woman, has achieved everything in life. At school she was the one courted by the teenage boys, and all the girls wanted to be her friend. Now she is in a senior position in a well-known bank, lives in a luxury flat, drives a big car and can have any man she sets her sights on. Lisa Hofbauer, a petite young woman of the same age, was at the same school until the end of junior high, when their ways suddenly parted. Now, more than 10 years later, a chance meeting brings them together again. Kira discovers that Lisa’s life has developed in a diametrically opposite direction to her own. But as was the case in their schooldays, she feels a sense of responsibility for Lisa. In her constant striving for something better, higher and faster, and her search for a meaning in life, she also feels curiously attracted to Lisa. When the two become physically close, their newly discovered happiness is marred by the shadows of the past, the reality of the present, and by their very human inability to deal with the situation, leading ultimately and unexpectedly to tragedy.
